Susan Dersnah Fee and George Fee
For My Colleagues in the Arts:

If, during my 28 years of teaching at the Indiana University School of Music, I were asked to name one person who is the most qualified to be the "true emissary of music" - one who can, in an exemplary way, pass on the tradition, the love, the excitement, the scholarly background - it would most certainly be George Fee.

Equally gifted and dedicated is his wife Susan Dersnah Fee, who by dint of her consuming interest in teaching and unusually effective manner of presentation, is the perfect collaborator for their combined efforts to help and support other musicians by means of their master classes and lectures.

For those who are considering the Fee team for their professional enlightenment, I can tell you without reservation, you have the most marvelous and inspiring experience in store for you.

Professor Emeritus of Music (Piano)

Extensive experience as performers, scholars, and teachers enables us to approach music from many different perspectives. Our master classes, lectures, and lecture demonstrations are intended to probe beyond the printed page to seek the underlying musical meaning and architecture. We also provide specific technical concepts for realizing musical goals, increasing ease in playing and preventing injury.

We endeavor to make our presentations a vital experience for everyone involved, and to provide warm encouragement to performers and fellow teachers. Although we each have university teaching experience, we have chosen to be independent teachers, and are very familiar with the day-to-day challenges which confront those who teach students of all ages and ability levels.

In order to be comprehensive, 2-3 hour or half-day sessions have proven to be very successful. Full-day workshops covering a variety of subjects have also been very well received. A combination of lectures, master class and recital is also possible.

Audio or video of 3 previous lecture-demonstrations is available on our Essays & Educational Materials page. One may also watch and listen to a 3 evening concert/lecture series on the History of Lieder on our Lieder Recitals page.
